This ISOTIS literature review addresses key theoretical models, assumptions and concepts within the field of parent- and family focused support and home-based education programs. First, core theoretical models, such as family systems theory and models, are briefly presented. Second, core concepts and assumptions are clarified, considering the individual level of the child, the micro-level of families and the home learning environment, the meso-level of family support systems, and the macro-level of sociocultural influences. Within the scope of the general ISOTIS framework, key concepts and assumptions of family systems intervention models and cross-cutting concepts (i.e., multicultural education, intercultural conflict and stereotype threat) are also defined. The review concludes with a suggestion of items, scales, and concepts for the ISOTIS parent survey.
